Second Semester and District UIL Results

Despite the lack of information on the website for the last three months our Math and Science Team has not been idling by.  Sorry for this and hopefully this post will bring all back up to speed.

We attended several tournaments after Katy Seven Lakes including Klein Oak, Dulles, Elkins, Lamar, Westbrook, and Stafford.  At all the tournaments we were able to bring home at least a few trophies from each.  Our Calculator has improved and we were even able to defeat the second place team last year at Region, Katy Seven Lakes at least in a practice tournament at Stafford.  This is a small victory for us, yet, they have moved on to 5A competition.

District on the other hand was a little tougher this year for us.  We were able to take first, second, third and fourth in Calculator Applications.  This contest continues to be our strongest.  We took 4th Individual in Number Sense, and also second, third, and fourth in Mathematics Individual.  Yet, these were not enough to win those contests.  In Science though, we did well by winning the Team competition and coming in second, third, and fourth.  We were still happy with the overall results and even had a few winnings in other contests we had never competed in such as a first place in Headline Writing.  We are currently expanding our competitiveness in other contests and shows in our much high participation at District this year.  I see that as a very important achievement.

Look for us at Region as we will be representing HISD with every intention of winning Calculator Applications as this is our best contest.  Good luck to all others going to Region and let’s all have a wonderful time April 25th.

This last weekend we went to our first tournament of the semester.  We ended up taking six students and had a wonderful time.  This time around over 32 different schools attended the tournament and this showed in the large numbers of students there.  They all had a great time and two of our students, Hernandez and Moreno are both back up to previous scores and we can now proceed on towards our goal of 250.  We also had a new student, Balli, who went to her very first tournament.  Wish us luck on this endeavor in Calculator.

We didn’t take home any trophies this time around as a result of the many teams at the conference and a focus on only awarding to the top six of each contest, regardless of grade level.  This will be changed for next year.  Other than that, we are doing well and have just launched a new team at one of our middle schools.  Wish us luck as we continue to grow the Math and Science Teams at our school and with a lot of hard work, build a wonderful community of academic excellence.
